Attn Academic Staff / Researchers: CDS VLE Upgrade - Training
by Fran FLSC Admin - Monday, 7 April 2014, 04:57 PM
Attn: all CDS Academic Staff / Researchers

Please find below details of the initial round of academic staff training sessions for the CDS VLE upgrade, to be run in advance of the go-live date of Friday 25 April.

These sessions are important particularly if you are one of the staff with module activity (pre-module preparation, teaching or assignments / marking) around the time of the upgrade, as we are keen to ensure that you are familiar with the functionality of the new interface. In the event of high levels of take-up, priority will be given to these staff. More sessions will be put on after the upgrade so that staff can familiarise themselves with the new interface before they next use the CDS VLE.

Please click on the link below for a Doodle Poll of the training dates available next week, and indicate all of the dates / times when you will be available to attend a session. If you are unable to attend any of the scheduled sessions, please indicate this by selecting Other on days where you have some availability, and we will endeavour to accommodate you. If you need priority training but are not available next week at all, please email FLSC on

Doodle Poll:

By the end of this week, we will notify everyone who has responded of their allocated session. Please note: it is important that you respond to the poll if you wish to attend one of these early sessions, as FLSC may cancel any sessions where there is low take-up.

If you have any queries, please contact FLSC by email: Note: a link to a general user guide will be distributed to all staff and students in the next few days. This brief guide will cover all that general users will need to know regarding day-to-day use of the new-look CDS VLE: where to find information from the new interface, where to access help, etc.

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve the VLE service.

CDS VLE Upgrade Downtime
by Aurelie FLSC Admin - Thursday, 3 April 2014, 04:02 PM

As a regular user of the CDS VLE, you will be aware that work has been underway for some exciting improvements to the VLE. The current Moodle version (V1.9) is no longer supported; the new upgraded version (V2.5) will provide an improved interface and valuable new functionalities. Existing pages will be migrated under the new version, so neither academics nor students will lose any existing content.

Learning Services’ Flexible Learning Support team is planning a series of awareness-raising and training sessions around the time of the upgrade, in order to make the transition to the new version as smooth as possible. We are also preparing a range of digital reference materials for you to use independently. More information on the sessions, including how to sign up, will follow shortly.

This upgrade will require the CDS VLE to be taken offline. We have planned the upgrade process to keep disruption to an absolute minimum, but you should plan for the VLE being unavailable from

00:01 Wednesday 23 April to 23:59 Thursday 24 April

Thank you for your patience as we work to improve the CDS VLE service.

Please download any necessary reading / pre-study material before the downtime.
Assignment submissions will NOT be possible during the downtime so ensure you submit any draft and final submissions as early as possible.

Staff: known issues with Chrome browsers on Shrivenham site
by Aurelie FLSC Admin - Wednesday, 19 March 2014, 12:18 PM
Dear colleagues,

We are aware that an issue has developed when using the Chrome web browser on computers on the Shrivenham domain.
The issue means that users will not be able to access the Turnitin/GradeMark document viewer and therefore it affects marking using GradeMark.
Other web browsers do not seem affected.

We have reported the issue and asked for an urgent resolution. We do recommend, however, that you continue to report any issues you have directly to the IT Help Desks, shall you encounter similar issues with Chrome.

Best regards,
